Our client wanted to return the site which had been Hydro, a popular early 2000's eatery, to a central hub in the neighbourhood, a pace to meet, mingle, eat and drink. They wanted the eatery to reflect the history of the Hayes paddock area, which was founded on socialist policy that a quality housing / evironment should be a common goal for all New Zealanders.

The design of Hayes Common taps into the notion of these values. The houses in the area are founded on a colour palette of terracotta, muted blues and greens and no one is the same. We wanted to bring materials and colours into Hayes Common that spoke of this past.
