The Tannery

Mt Atkinson Coffee came to us with a vision to turn the existing Kohu Road Creamery into a space where they could roast their coffee beans, teach their customers about coffee and still keep the visual links to the ice cream factory behind. The beauty of the new use of the space is the fusion of two influential brands and their product - ice cream and coffee.

More Info

The unique space (historically designed to be a leather tannery), is designed around two distinct ideas ‘good things come in pairs’ and Mt Atkinson's brand story the ‘Refined Westie’ created by foureightfive. By contrasting materials, colours and the use of space we managed to link the two ideas together in a way that takes the customer on somewhat of a journey. The café is large and intimate at the same time; light and moody; and warm and fresh. It’s a concoction of pairings, contrasts and has an ingrained west coast spirit.
