Biskit

The brief for this new Parnell Cafe was to create something beautiful on a budget, with the only guidelines being to have lots of light and storage, while remaining true to the character of the suburb. The latter was largely helped by the unexpected discovery of an original brick wall, hidden by multiple layers of Gib; and a beautiful timber floor preserved by a skin of vinyl and carpet, which was later whitewashed.

More Info

Bespoke details were added in the form of oversized light fittings created in collaboration with Powersurge metalworkers and personally sewn by a member of the Material Creative team. Oak furniture was built locally and Steiner Ceramics were commissioned to make the servingware in a custom shade of green - a particularly fitting addition as the lesser known definition of Biskit refers to unfired pottery.
